Series I: Understory

The title reflects how the work develops. I create a loose structure, like a canopy and allow something to grow within it. The image isn’t imposed; it emerges over time.

These drawings come from presence and discovery. Using pencil, I follow the movement of lines as they appear, fade and return. Gradually a face begins to form.

They are not portraits, but expressions of inner states. Each piece holds space — quiet, open and unfinished — inviting the viewer to pause, feel, and find their own meaning. Understory is about what exists beneath the surface, subtle, shifting, alive.

(All art is unframed unless otherwise listed. If you would like to purchase it framed, Nida will be happy to discuss framing options with you.)
